Lucknow: Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday sanctioned Rs 867.87 crore for relief to farmers in drought affected districts.
Another Rs 11.25 crore has been released for immediate help to victims of fire outbreaks in various districts.
The state government has also directed district magistrates (DMs) to ensure that relief was extended to the affected farmers promptly and warned them of any laxity in disuursement of funds to the needy in drought hit districts.
This relief package is in addition to the Rs 137.66 crore that has been released for the 21 districts reeling under drought crises earlier.
The state government had declared 50 districts as drought hit in June and September, 2015 owing to scanty rainfall.
After the assessment of crop damage and losses due to drought, a memorandum seeking Rs. 2057.79 crore, for immediate relief was sent to the Government of India
