More than 2,900 hectare of forest land has been devastated by the forest fires in Uttarakhand.

Besides the 6,000 firefighters, personnel of the National Disaster Response Force or NDRF, the Army and the Air Force are working to douse the fires.

The fire that blazed through Uttarakhand forests has been doused to a large extent.

Air force helicopters have been pressed into service to curb what remains of it. Added to this, NDRF, SDRF, State police and teams from the forest department are also toiling hard to douse the fire erupting from sparse locations in the forests.

Indian Navy has directed 17 Mi Helicopters to collect water from Bheemtal to curb the fire.

According to the centre, 90% of the fire has been controlled. The Centre has sent a 4-member team of specialists to monitor the situation and suggest ways to further ease the crisis.

The NDA government at the centre is in constant touch with the state government.

More than 2900 hectares of land is struck by a spell of massive fire in Uttarakhand.

Five people have lost their lives owing to the flames. According to the forest department, the fire has caused loss of nearly 60 lakh which is coupled with the detrimental effect on glaciers.

Environmentalists warn that the smoke from the fire will coat the glacier with harmful pollutants which will result in untimely melting of the glaciers.

The inferno will also threaten tourism in the state including the Char Dham Yatra.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has sent notices to the Uttarakhand and Himchal Pradesh state governments questioning the preparedness of the states in case of such crisis.

Earlier, Uttarakhand High court had sent notices to the Ministry of Forests and Environment demanding detailed response on the issue.

Apart from Uttarakhand, reports have also surfaced on fire in forests of neighboring Himachal Pradesh.

512 forests have come under the spell of the inferno ruining 4000 hectares of forest land.

Forests spreading across Solan, Shimla, Sirmor, Kullu, Kangra and Hamirpur have been devastated.

The State government is making adequate efforts at local level to ease the crisis.

Reasi district in Jammu and Kashmir is also battling a massive forest fire.

The forest department has attributed this fire to deficient rainfall and extremely hot weather conditions in the region.
