India: PM meets CMs of Drought-hit States

Prime Minister Modi says, specific requirement of drought-hit states being assessed with focus on immediate and long-term measures to mitigate drought; Holds meetings with chief Ministers of Telangana and Madhya Pradesh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held separate meetings with Chief Ministers of 2 drought-affected States. Telangana and Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday to assess their specific requirements of tackling drought and water scarcity.

In the day, PM said that 'Drought mitigation efforts continue at a quick pace. The discussions with CMs are state specific & very detailed thus ensuring the best possible means to collectively mitigate the drought'.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan thanks PM for his initiative to hold meetings with all drought-affected States.

The thrust of the meetings between PM and Chief Ministers has been to take collective action to bring respite to the drought-hit.

Meanwhile, Lok Sabha discussed the drought situation in different parts of the country, drinking water scarcity and inter-linking of rivers on Tuesday where concerns were voiced by MPs across party lines.

1,58,205 villages in 313 districts are drought-hit affecting over 25% of our population.
