Relief from the heat wave, gripping Delhi as well as other states of North India as rains on Monday afternoon brought the mercury down.
Delhi as well as several other states of North India, which were in the grip of a severe heat wave saw rains on Monday morning.
Duststorm on Monday afternoon in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh that was accompanied by light rain made the weather pleasant.
In capital Delhi, people got a respite from the humidity and heat prevalent in the past few days as the weather turned pleasant and cool on Monday evening.
Phagwara, Nawashahar, Amritsar, Hisar, Gurudaspur, Patiala as well as other places in Punjab saw rain, which gave relief to the people from the heat.
While Sirsa, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra in Haryana saw the mercury going down due to rain.
Earlier, all these places recorded 41 to 45 degree temperature, while in Hisar, the mercury touched 47 degrees in the past two days.
Met office says that this rain is due to western disturbances and temperatures won't rise in the next two to three days.
This change in weather was also felt in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, North-eastern states, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka as well as several other states.
While several states are still reeling under a severe heat wave, Odisha, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana is seeing no let up in the mercury levels.
Meanwhile, in Telangana, the toll in heat wave related deaths has gone upto 315. The maximum numbers of 91 people have died in Nalgonda district.
Met Office says that till 25th May, heat wave would continue in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Pre-monsoon showers have brought respite in some states. But now it is time to wait for the arrival of the monsoon. Met Office has predicted above normal rain this time.
